short: A slight update to GRACPlayer2
Author: Edmund Clay and Andy Gibson (andy@agasinc.demon.co.uk)
Uploader: Andy Gibson (andy@agasinc.demon.co.uk)
Type: util/misc
After releasing my GRAC 2 Tutorial (available from F1 Software -
phil@5dware.demon.co.uk) I had many requests for an updated and bug
fixed GRAC Player. Well, here it is at last :)
I won't bore you with too much detail here, but many GRAC 2 users may
have noticed the odd bug or two in the original supplied player.
Seeing as the author, Edmund Clay, is no longer supporting GRAC, I
felt it was time for a small bug fix to be released.
I have not done much to it. Just a simple bug fix regarding walking in
and out of rooms. That's all. Sometimes it didn't happen due to walk
zones, but this fix should help. :)
Before you all start shouting that it must be illegal for me to
release this update, read the following direct from the great Edmund
himself... (direct from the source)
'
'GRAC player V2.0
'Copyright E.W.Clay 1995
'
'It is illegal to distribute this program as source code. You may
'distribute it in compiled form with or without modifications as
'public domain. If you want to use routines from this code in your
'own programs, you can, within reason.
'
So I have simply updated it slightly, not much. I do have a suped up
version which handles fonts and tracker tunes much better as well as
samples etc, but then again, I have also updated my Editor to make use
of some new wicked features to suit.
I have no plans to release that version. For starters, Edmund clearly
states that it is illegal for anyone to re-release the Editor! Shame
really, coz my new features make GRAC such a better program.
What I shall do is maybe update the player at a later date to handle
the fonts better at least. At present, it reads ALL fonts in the fonts
dir! This is very long on a HD as you can imagine! It's a two minute
job to fix, so look out for an update maybe...
As for updating the music and sample bugs! Err, I guess you'll have to
make do with what you have. I would have to add new commands in and
that would mean you need a new Editor I'm afraid! Although, maybe a
few neat hacks around the Player code will suffice...leave it with me
for now.
Whether or not I upload this to Aminet or not, I dunno! At present,
it'll only be available to those who order GRAC or my Tutorial from F1
Software. (phil@ware5d.demon.co.uk)
This Player is Free to spread widely. I won't even give it an updated
version number! What's the point? It's not that much of a fixed
version after all. Just use it in place of your original GRACPlayer2
original.
Please do not bombard me with emails regarding bug reports on this. I
didn't program it! Leave me to release updates when I see fit - OK?
And please please please do not bother Phil at F1 either. He is in no
way gonna deal with these kinda probs! Buy my GRAC 2 Tutorial from
Phil. It's much better than the GRAC manual.
(see review in CU Amiga Issue Feb 1998)
It's on two disks and comes in a HUGE Amigaguide with full
instructions on how to create a GRAC 2 game from scratch and has many
other features in there too.
It also covers the GRAC Editor in full and lists all commands in easy
explained terms etc. See the new F1 Cat Disk available from Phil.
I plan to also release some handy utils for GRAC 2 such as an Auto
Image Grabber which will save you the hassles of grabbing all those
character frames. It'll all be done for you at the push of a button. I
use it all the time (via my own coded Editor) and I may just cut the
code and release a `Stand-Alone' vrsion for all to share :)
Other ideas are in the pipeline too, you'll just have to wait and see
with what I come up with for GRAC 2 at a future date....
In the meantime, many thanx for reading.
